Individual life and health insurance went from 18% GST to nil on 22 September 2025. Group policies did not, the saving reaching you may be less than 18%, and which rate applies turns on the date the premium was paid rather than the date it fell due.
IRDAI's Master Circular on Health Insurance Business puts hard clocks on a cashless claim, and makes the insurer pay for the delay out of its own shareholder fund. Most policyholders waiting at a discharge desk have no idea the deadline exists.

Building and contents are separate purchases under an NFIP policy, each with its own deductible. A flood that damages both means paying both, which is the part nobody discovers until the claim.
A named storm deductible is a percentage of the insured value, not a flat sum. On a $300,000 home a 5% deductible is $15,000 out of pocket, and what triggers it is written into your policy, not decided by the weather.
One pays a monthly income for as long as you cannot work. The other pays a lump sum on diagnosis of a listed condition, once, and then ends. You can be seriously ill and claim on one while the other pays nothing.
The rule that would have closed the federal window on 15 December was struck down in court. CMS has confirmed the dates: 1 November to 15 January. But 15 December still decides when your coverage starts.
